Downtown Haverhill is tossing its traditional trash system in the bin with solar-powered trash alternatives now taking the spotlight.
The city continues its mission to become “cleaner and greener,” with the recent installation of Bigbelly solar-powered trash compactors throughout the downtown area.
Trash cans were removed along many streets and sidewalks, replacing the standard barrel with a modernized waste management system, helping Haverhill inch closer to sustainability goals.
Bigbelly, a Needham-based company focused on improving efficiency and sustainability within the waste system, provides solar-powered trash compactors, or smart bins, to communities across the Commonwealth.
The smart units compact trash using the power of the sun, holding five times more waste than a traditional barrel. Bigbelly’s bins are also fully enclosed, reducing litter, pests and odor.
“Our mission is to become a world leader in making public spaces better, more beautiful and welcoming through complete waste containment,” said founder and Vice President Jeff Satwicz
