University of North Carolina at Greensboro: Deployed just last month, UNC Greensboro’s inaugural fleet of Bigbelly Smart Waste & Recycling stations (see article) are picking up press! UNCG deployed Bigbelly’s smart compactors in their efforts to reduce carbon footprint, and to keep a clean and safe campus for students & UNGC community members.
Reducing CO2 on Campus: UNCG adopted Bigbelly’s Smart Waste & Recycling Solution to reduce CO2 emissions by cutting down on the number of garbage trucks on campus. The sustainability team monitors Bigbelly’s compaction efficiency using the CLEAN Software Management Console: “Every time that compactor arm comes down, it transmits a signal to a software we have on our computers and smartphones, so we are actually able to see when these machines are full,” – Ross Rick, UNCG Assistant Director for Facility Services.
Funded by Students! UNCG’s Facilities Services team worked in partnership with the UNCG Green Fund, a campus-based grant program developed by the UNCGreen Student Club. The fund is supported by student activity fees, and fuels UNCG’s Climate Action Plan through sustainability initiatives like the Bigbelly project. The Green Fund financed the inaugural fleet through Bigbelly’s Connect™ Service Program, demonstrating the University’s true commitment to efficiency and diversion.
