Community Spotlight: Seaside Heights Helps Protect New Jersey’s Coastline
Every community has an opportunity to make a difference.

As part of Bigbelly’s All Together for Our Oceans initiative, we’re highlighting communities investing in cleaner public spaces while helping reduce the opportunity for litter to reach our waterways and oceans.
One of those communities is Seaside Heights, New Jersey.
Every summer, millions of residents and visitors enjoy one of New Jersey’s most iconic beach destinations. Keeping beaches, boardwalks, restaurants, and public gathering spaces clean requires thoughtful planning, strong partnerships, and infrastructure designed to perform in high-volume public environments.
By investing in fully enclosed waste and recycling infrastructure, Seaside Heights is helping contain waste where it’s generated—supporting cleaner public spaces while helping reduce the opportunity for litter to reach storm drains, local waterways, and ultimately the Atlantic Ocean.

Supporting Cleaner Public Spaces
To help meet seasonal demands, Seaside Heights deployed:
- 115 Bigbelly double stations
- 10 SmartMax® solar-powered compacting stations
- 105 Elements® fully enclosed stations
Installed throughout the boardwalk district, near restaurants, beach access points, and other high-traffic public spaces, the deployment supports cleaner streets, sidewalks, beaches, and gathering places during the busiest months of the year.
Supporting Stormwater Management
Protecting waterways begins on land.
Seaside Heights leveraged stormwater funding to invest in infrastructure that supports cleaner public spaces while helping reduce the opportunity for litter and plastics to enter storm drains, local waterways, and ultimately the Atlantic Ocean.
Their investment demonstrates how environmental stewardship and everyday public space operations can work together to benefit residents, visitors, and the coastline they enjoy.

Community Benefits
Designed for busy coastal destinations, the deployment helps Seaside Heights:
- Create cleaner beaches and boardwalks
- Help reduce litter and plastic pollution
- Fully contain waste to help deter pest activity
- Increase waste capacity during peak tourism
- Improve operational efficiency through smarter collection strategies
- Support healthier coastal waterways
