The Smart Waste & Recycling Solution

Frequently Asked Questions

Got Questions? We’ve Got Answers!

There’s no such thing as a bad question at Bigbelly. Here are the answers to some we hear often:

Where are the stations manufactured?

Every Bigbelly station is assembled in the United States of America. Our manufacturing facilities are located in Michigan.

What are the stations made out of?

There are hundreds of different parts, but the exteriors of our stations are made out of recycled U.S. steel and recycled plastics (often the leftover cuttings from the disposable diaper manufacturing process).

Why is there a solar panel?

The solar panel is used to charge an internal battery, which in turn powers all of the features of our stations, including compaction and wireless communications.

Do they work when it’s not sunny?

Because we are continuously charging the internal battery during daylight hours, our stations are able to continue functioning for more than 72 hours without direct sunlight.

Where can they be placed?

As long as there is clear sky overhead, you can install a station. Stations should always be bolted into a concrete pad of other permanent surface to prevent damage or theft.

Can you use them indoors?

We offer an indoor model, or you can purchase an additional a/c adapter accessory.

How do they know when to compact?

There are sensors inside each component that detects the fullness level and will trigger a compaction cycle when necessary.

How much does it cost to maintain them?

Our stations have been on the streets in some tough neighborhoods for many years and were designed — and continually refined — for those environments. We offer Extended Service Pack coverage which covers annual preventative maintenance and any defect-related repairs.

Why does it have a handle?

All of our Bigbelly components feature a hopper-style design. There are a few reasons for this. First and foremost is safety — the hopper design makes it impossible for anyone to get near the compaction mechanism while it is operating. The enclosed design also prevents pests from gaining access to waste, keeps out rains and snow, plus it prevents overflows and wind from creating litter issues.

How do they communicate?

Just like your mobile phone, our stations use cellular data to communicate important information to our servers, which can then be viewed via the CLEAN Management Console on the web or on your mobile device with the iOS and Android apps.

How much do they cost?

It all depends on which configuration you are interested in. Get in touch with our sales team to discuss the options and get started.
